About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In an exhilarating La Liga encounter, Valencia edged past Deportivo Alavés with a 3-2 victory on Sunday, 8 March 2026. The match, held at Valencia's home ground, was a thrilling contest that saw both teams exchanging blows in a tightly contested affair. The game started with a bang as Lucas Boyé gave Deportivo Alavés an early lead in the 3rd minute. This early goal set the tone for a competitive match, with Valencia quickly responding to the challenge. Despite the initial setback, Valencia managed to turn the game around, showcasing their resilience and attacking prowess. Valencia's comeback was orchestrated through a series of well-executed plays, although the specific goal scorers and assists were not detailed in the available data. The absence of red cards meant that both teams maintained their full squads throughout the match, allowing for a fair contest of tactical acumen. From a tactical perspective, both teams fielded unchanged lineups from their previous matches, indicating a level of confidence in their existing setups. Deportivo Alavés made a single substitution, bringing on Youssef Enríquez, which added a fresh dynamic to their play but ultimately wasn't enough to secure a result. The victory for Valencia is significant as it helps them maintain momentum in the league. For Deportivo Alavés, the narrow defeat is a setback, but their performance showed promise and competitiveness, which they can build upon in future fixtures. Post-match reactions highlighted the competitive spirit of both teams, with Valencia's manager praising the team's ability to recover from an early deficit. Meanwhile, Alavés' head coach acknowledged the need to tighten their defense to avoid conceding crucial goals. This result leaves Valencia in a stronger position as they continue to push up the La Liga table, while Deportivo Alavés will need to regroup and focus on their upcoming matches to climb the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
